food This food photograph for a Thai curryhouse works due to the texture and depth of the composition.  The plate was stacked with the tallest food at the rear to give a profile to the dish.  To add more contrast to thefood photograph we added a bamboo mat under white plate on a white table cloth.

The addition of the wine, wooden chair and tea light in the background gave the background more interest and a natural texture.

The wine also gives a sense fo scale on a starter dish which was designed for two people.

A long exposure, with no flash was used.  Flash whited aout the meal and lost the sense of depth to the food photograph.

The shoot took 1-2 hours to get just right as we played with the composition, shoot angle and lighting.
Food photography is incredibly difficult.  Getting the textures, reflections, shadows and compostion to appeal to someones taste buds is a difficult task.

Through few things are more rewarding than food photgraphy when done correctly - Translating visual imagery to a tantalising imaginary taste of a stunning meal.  Invoke emotion!!

The body is often driven by smell in promoting appetite.  To invoke it through food photography is always a pleasure.

Food photography styling on the plate is normally best undertaken by your chefs or food development team.  We will put the plates/ product in context.

Sweets are always best photographed with someone enjoying, a fork or spoon in mid slice...  Many food images look great being photographed whilst being prepared.
Tips for great Food Photography
1.  Show the meal in context - A plate of fine food sat in isolation is a lonely item.  Sat next to a fork, a glass of wine says - Eat me - Drink Me!
2. Brown meals never photo well.  A stew will often look just like a brown sludge!   Get some colour in there!
3. Steam me up scotty!  Turn off the heating, open the windows and shoot in cold winter or in low temperatures with beaming light to get those really mouth watering steam effects.
4.  People, People, People!!  People love people. Make sure your shots have people in.
5.  Click Flash, Click.  When shooting a restaurant the last thing your customers want is to be interupted whilst a photographer does his work. Flash flash click flash, turn your head left a bit please , Click Flash!!!   Get some friends, family or hire professional / Semi amateur  models!

Majority of our food photography projects are in context images with restaurants.  We also undertake out of context pure food shoots.

Food shoots often take significant time to get just right - a single dish needs careful design for a perfectly composed and shot.

Made especially tricky as the food is often in peak visual performance for a limited time period.  As such each shoot needs indivudal quoting depending on requirements.

A restaurant food shoot will cost in the region of  £150-£1500 depending on requirements, numbers of dishes imaged and model requirements.
